Byesville Rotary holds 28th scholarship golf scramble

Pictured: Teams preparing for the shotgun start.

For 27 years, Byesville Rotary has held a golf scramble to raise funds for student scholarships. Over their 27 year history, Byesville Rotary has given away $67,500 to 162 seniors graduating from Meadowbrook and from Mid East Career and Technology Centers Buffalo Campus.

Byesville Rotary invites all golfers who would like to help Meadowbrook seniors attain their dreams to join club members at this year’s golf scramble. All funds raised will go toward scholarships. Larry Miller reported that team registration is ongoing. He stated, “[The club] needs to register more teams to insure a successful fundraiser.” To register for the event contact Larry Miller, 740-439-7606.

Teams will participate in a 3 person team golf scramble to be held on Sunday, May 4, at the Wildfire Golf Course in New Concord. Registration is at 7:30 am. Shotgun start begins at 8:00 am. Cost is $55 per team member. Businesses can sponsor teams at $165 per team. Cash prizes will be $300, $200, and $100 for first, second, and third place teams. Mulligans are included in the registration fee. Proximity prizes, winners’ prizes and assorted door prizes will be awarded at the end of play.

The club provides hot dogs and drinks at the turn. Dinner, catered by TJ’s, will be provided after the golfers finish their rounds.

The club meets 7:30 am every Tuesday at the Stop Nine Senior Center at 60313 (GPS use 60299) Southgate Road, Byesville. 4-Way Test speech contest winners announced

Pictured: Annie Kackley, 1st place winner; Dennis Harding, Pres. Byesville Rotary; and John Barba, 2nd place winner.

Byesville Rotary held a Four Way Test Speech competition at their morning meeting. The Four-Way Test speech contest challenges students to think about how personal ethics affects their lives. The students are asked to present a speech on the nonpartisan and nonsectarian ethical guide Rotarians use in their personal and professional relationships.

The guide consists of 24 words: 1) Is it the truth? 2) Is it fair to all concerned? 3) Will it build good will and better friendships? 4) Will it be beneficial to all concerned?

Each student competing in the speech contest gave a 5-7 minute original speech. Students were evaluated on speech content, organization, and delivery.

After hearing speeches from each contestant, Byesville Rotary awarded first place to Annie Kackley and presented her with a $300 check. John Barba was awarded 2ed place and presented with a $200 check. Annie will to represent the club at the District contest.

The club meets 7:30 am every Tuesday at the Stop Nine Senior Center at 60313 (GPS use 60299) Southgate Road, Byesville. Everyone interested in giving back to their community is invited to join. Call Membership Chair Jim Vaughan, 740-432-5605, to learn more about the club. More information is available at: www.Byesvillerotary.blogspot.com
