Reading for next meeting: September Rotarian, "President's Message," p. 1, and "Sorghum" lable on p. 2.
During the monthly business
meeting, Byesville Rotary club members discussed projects and fund raising
plans in preparation for the next 4 months. Pres. Oziel Jeffries indicated the
club has two major areas of focus. The first area is to work with the
Meadowbrook Interact club which is a service club sponsored by Byesville
Rotary. The second area of focus is to prepare for the club’s annual Christmas
Food Basket distribution. The club needs to raise between $6000-7000 for this
project.
Club members voted to donate
$100 to the Children’s Dyslexia Center. The donation will be used to sponsor a
golf hole at the Center’s annual golf scramble which will be held at the
Cambridge country Club. The club also voted to donate $300 to the Guernsey
County Sheriff’s Department to help purchase a 2ed K-9 patrol officer.
Tanya Hitchens is working on
identifying how many 3rd graders are attending Rolling Hills
elementary schools. The club will be buying dictionaries for each third grade
student.
Club members decided to
change how they supported the Main Avenue United Methodist Food Pantry. Members
have been bringing canned meat to each club business meeting. The canned meat
was then donated to the Pantry. Club members decided to ask members to donate
$1-3.00 in lieu of canned meat.
Randy Launder, co-chair of
the chicken BBQ, informed club members that the club’s last chicken BBQ will be
held on Saturday, September 22. The Meadowbrook Interact club will be working
with Byesville at the BBQ. Byesville Rotary will split the monies raised by the
BBQ with the interact Club. He said that working with the Interact club is
always a lot of fun an, and he asked that club members make time in their
schedules to work a shift at the BBQ.
