Golf tournament raises near record for scholarships
Larry
Miller, chair of the Byesville Rotary Scholarship Golf Tournament, reported
that the club’s 2018 scholarship golf tournament held on May 6 at the Cambridge
Country club netted $3500 to support scholarships for seniors graduating from
Meadowbrook. He said that participation by players and sponsors was greater
this year than in 2017. Twenty-five teams participated in the tournament and 35
local businesses and organizations supported the tournament.
Miller
reported that the winners of the tournament were Matt Miller, Tracey Singleton,
and Chris Miller.
Jim Bakos,
Chair of the Scholarship Committee, thanked the club members who served on the committee.
The committee evaluated 15 student scholarship applications and decided to
interview 6 students. Four scholarships will be awarded by President Rhonda
Stemmer at the Meadowbrook Award Dinner.
Melinda
Yerian updated the club about plans for a “Pints for Polio” event to be held
Wednesday, June 6, at the Wagon Wheel Bar and Grill in Buffalo. Yerian
explained that this event will be a “party with a purpose.” The club and the
Wagon Wheel will be raising funds to support the eradication of polio. Polio
will be the second disease after smallpox to be eliminated.
Club members will be selling 50/50 tickets and having Purple Pinky! What is Purple Pinky? Come and see us on June 6th and find out. There will also be corn hole out on the patio. Bring the whole family for a fun time.
