Byesville Rotary holds Changing of Guard dinner

Pictured: Members of the Byesville Rotary attending the dinner. Almost every member received recognition for engagement in club projects, service as club officers and chair persons, or serving on the board.

Byesville Rotarians inducted new officers for 2018 2019 at their annual Changing of the Guard celebration. During the dinner, almost every member of this “small but Mighty” club was recognized for service to club and its 3 major service projects: the annual Christmas Food Basket program, a health screening in cooperation with Southeastern Med, and a scholarship awards program which presents at least 4 scholarships to Meadowbrook graduating seniors.

Dan Navicky, club historian, presented a story board illustrating all of the club’s projects. He included pictures of the activities club members were involved in including chicken BBQ’s, pancake Breakfasts with Santa Clause and the Easter Bunny, a Scholarship Golf Tournament, and “Stuff Santa’s Stocking” in the Byesville intersection.

During the year, the club provided Christmas food baskets to 200 families and awarded 4 scholarships to graduating Meadowbrook students, and made donations to local non-profits in support of their activities.

Rhonda Stemmer, club president, recognized Becky Bruner as Byesville “Rotarian of the Year.” Bruner was recognized for her willingness to support club activities with both time and donations. In addition, she often recruits students from Mid-East Buffalo Campus to participate in club projects.

Stemmer also presented “Engagement Recognition Awards” to club members who were recognized for at least 38 hours of engagement/volunteering for service projects or participation in club activities. Members receiving recognition for engagement were: Melinda Yerian, Jan Wilson, Don Valentine, Larry Miller, Shana Fair, Chuck Fair, and Becky Bruner. Stemmer also recognized club officers and board members for their service.

The 2918019 officers are: President—Rhonda Stemmer, President Elect, Shana Fair, Treasurer and Grants Chair—Jan Wilson, Secretary and PR Chair—Shana Fair; Membership Chairs—Phyllis Millhone and Melinda Yerian, Historian—Dan Navicky. Board of Trustee members are: Debbie Meade, Larry Miller, and Becky Bruner.

Stemmer stated her goals for the year included developing a project to support international project involving developmental disabled students, supporting Rotary’s program to eliminate polio, and holding a joint project involving at least one service group.

The dinner was held at the Cambridge Country Club. Club members Nellie Bichard, Jan Wilson and Tanya Hitchens planned and organized the festivities.
