the Cambridge Rotary challenge to raise Pennies for Polio by seeing who could
raise the most Pennies for Polio by getting supporters of Meadowbrook and
Cambridge high schools to donate pennies to the Rotary International project to
eliminate polio. Melinda Yerian, Byesville club member, also issued a challenge
to her club members. She will match club member donations up to $10 per member.
Meadowbrook won the challenge. Cambridge Rotary has issued a challenge for a
rematch in 2019.
Meadowbrook principal,
Devon Dettra, visited the club meeting to encourage the club members to find a
lot of pennies for the “Challenge.” He shared his memories of working with
Byesville Rotary at their chicken BBQ’s and partnering with the club to fill Christmas
baskets. He stated that these activities helped him to learn to give back to
his community.
Dettra considers his job
is to prepare his students for to have the skills to hold a job and to become
leaders in their community. He hopes each graduate will be prepared to change
lives in
The community they live
in.
Dettra was accompanied by
Ethan ford, a Meadowbrook senior. Ford said that he is involved in multiple
extra-curricular activities that include Student council, Interact, and
National Honor Society, He also works as an office aide at the high school,
spends 2 days a week tutoring at Brook Elementary, and has set a school goal to
collect 200 pints of blood during the Colt blood Drive. He is also a staff
member of the Ivy League Foundation which provides leadership opportunities for
young people.
