Meeting Notes for Dec. 16

We celebrated Christmas early this year. Today was "Bring a gift for Secret SantaDay." We had a big stack of gifts for the kids.

Business of the day:

We inducted a new member: Becky Armbruster, Assistant Manger at Wal-Mart, is now our newest member. Congrats. If you missed the meeting, be sure to welcome her when you see her.

Bob outlines our plans for completing our annual Christmas Food Basket service project. Members will pack boxes this week on Friday, November 19. Please plan to start work at the Methodist Activity Hall at 7:00 am. We will be there until we finish and we have about 225 baskets to pack. We need all hands to show up.

The baskets will be distributed Saturday, November 20, to those who have signed up for baskets. Bob would like a few of us to show up at 6:30. Distribution is scheduled to be from 7:00am-11:00am but it is likely someone will need to be at the Activity Hall until 12N.

The club members send thanks to all the schools in the Rolling Hills School District, the Mid-East Career and Technology Center--Buffalo Campus for their efforts to collect and donate canned goods to this project. We also thank T&J Market, Andrews Produce, the Byesville VFW, Cambridge Packaging, and the many local organizations and individuals that supported this project with their donations.
Dan Navicky reported that club members distributed dictionaries last week to 135 students at Brook Elementary, Byesville Elementary, and Secrest Elementary.
The meeting concluded with drawings for some Christmas gifts for the club members. Thanks to Nellie Bichard and Marty Patchen for organizing the gift giving and Christmas cards.

Christmas project: Food baskets

Bob reports that the food basket fund raising is going well. The only thing in question is how well the students at our local schools are doing on collecting canned goods. Ryan reports that the Interact Club and the high school students are doing a good job of collecting canned goods.

Food basket packing will be at the Methodist Activity Hall on Friday, December 19, 9:00am till we are finished.
Food baskets will be passed out from the Methodist Activity Hall on Saturday, December 20, 7:00am-11:00am. See everyone there to pack and to pass out (I hope not literally from all the hard work).

Thanks for the party and the great food!

We had a great party on Saturday even though it snowed. The food was great. Everyone brought something for the party. We had lots of different soups, great appetizers provided by Richard, and lots of desserts. Thanks to everyone who provided cooking expertise and thanks to Grizz and his wife for opening their home.

Next Project--Christmas Food Baskets

Wednesday (October 29), we will start to work on registering families for food baskets. After that we will be ringing bells with the Salvation Army to raise money for the baskets.
Next meeting is also National Election Day. At Byesville Rotary it is also "Don't Forget to Bring Your Meat Day." Bring canned meat or $3.00. Homework assignment is to read two articles in the newest issue of Rotarian: "Let the Sun Shine In" and "Very Moving Pictures." We will also induct new members at this meeting.
There will be a Board meeting on Thursday at 12N at Pizza Plus.

Spaghetti Supper Kick Off for Christmas Food Baskets

The Spaghetti Supper fundraiser went well. Thanks to all the members of the community that donated to this event. We had more donated before we even began cooking the pasta than we had donated during the supper. We also had great support from Rotary members and from the Interact group.

Last Chicken BBQ of 2008

The final chicken BBQ for 2008 went well. We had lots of support from Interact and the weather stayed nice. We sold most of the chickens. Sorry--no pictures of all the workers dealing with the chickens.
