Isn't this great--TWO students from our area placed in the final three.
John Glenn student
Korbinian Weidinger, winner of the Cambridge Rotary 4-Way Test Speech contest,
placed second at the Rotary District 6690 competition. Meadowbrook student Andrea
Kackley, winner of the Byesville Rotary 4-Way Test Speech contest, placed
third. First place went to Kellie Jones representing the Dublin-Worthington
Rotary Club.
The Four-Way Test was
adapted by Rotary in 1943 as a simple, easy-to-remember checklist to help
members remember to apply this positive and powerful code to how they live
their lives and serve others. This code is not based on culture or religion and
in 24 words asks the following questions of the things people think, say, or
do: 1) Is it the truth? 2) Is it fair to all concerned? 3) Will it build good
will and better friendships? 4) Will it be beneficial to all concerned?
The Four-Way Test speaking
contest challenges students to think about how the personal ethics represented
by this code affects their lives. Each student competing in the speech contest
gave a 5-7 minute original speech in which the student applied the Rotary
Four-Way Test to everyday relationships. Students were evaluated on speech
content, organization, and delivery. First place winner received $500; second
place, $250; and third place, $125.
